The College of Commissioner Science (CCS) is offering a series of professional educational workshops that will feature diverse hands-on techniques that will enable the participants to fully understand some “best practices” involved in adult volunteer training. The overall outcome of the series of courses is that the participants will become competent, comfortable, and equipped with the latest ‘tools” designed to heighten their knowledge base.

The following sessions are an “extension” offering of the College of Commissioner Science, and are being offered to all commissioners (Unit, District and Council) in the Las Vegas Area Council, whether they are in the bachelor, master, and doctorate programs, and also to those scout leaders not currently in the CCS programs at all.  The sessions will be open to all committee members (pack, troop, varsity, or venturing).

The six 5-hours sessions will be offered monthly, on Saturday mornings at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center – 7220 S. Paradise Rd. Las Vegas, NV 89119.  You may attend any course or all six.  Check-in for the courses begin at 8:00 am with the sessions going from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm.  There is no cost to attend the courses, however we ask that you pre-register on-line at www.lvacbsa.org

Leadership

The series of sessions will be led-off with a look at Leadership.  Leadership is defined as a process of influencing an individual (or individuals) to accomplish desirable goals.  The key to effective leadership is not any single leadership style; more importantly, it is the ability to adapt leadership behavior to meet the requirements of many different situations, and the needs of various people.  It's not being a "task master" or "soft touch", but knowing how or when to be either (or something in-between) recognizing which style a particular situation demands, and applying it.   There are certain leadership tools that will be utilized to look at the dynamics of our personalities.  Session 1 will be utilizing the Meyers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI).
